Public transportation is one of the main means of transportation, especially for young people. But especially on weekends, it is often difficult to get home – especially after 0 o’clock. So you have to call your parents after all, or one person from the group has to play cab. Now there is an inexpensive alternative for young people from the Heilbronn district:
Together with the Heilbronn District Office, we were allowed to develop this alternative in the form of an app. With “fiftyfifty-Taxi”, young people between the ages of 16 and 25 can drive a cab for half the price. Half of the costs are covered by the district. This enables everyone to get home safely – even without a parent cab. The concept is not new. In other counties, such as Ostalbkreis, it has been successfully implemented for some time and served as inspiration.
Using the app is intuitive and offers useful functions, such as cab hotlines that can be called directly from the app. As well as a clear display of the saved trips. Even the use in the cab itself, is easily solved via a QR code. It is even possible to share the ride with several people – even if they do not have the app installed on their smartphone. Of course, the app is available for both iPhone and Android users.
Our team has already started the project in the summer of 2020. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, it was paused in the meantime. We are all the more pleased now that the team was able to successfully publish fiftyfifty cab. Sebastian Vollmer – the main person responsible in the projects – was enthusiastic from the beginning. “For Heilbronn, it is already the second cab app in this style. The idea back then for the first (app) in the Ostalbkreis district I found super right away, because I as a young person would have been very happy about such an offer back then. Therefore, I found the UseCase spitz and was fully motivated to work on it.”
We also find the idea behind the app extremely worthy of support and hope that as many young people make it home safely.
